FAQs
Preliminaries
The minimum order quantity on our store is 500 labels. If you need fewer than 500 labels, it is considered a custom run, and you will need to complete our custom quote form. We understand that some projects require smaller quantities, and our custom quote process allows us to provide a tailored solution for these needs.
Custom runs are ideal for special projects, prototypes, or when you simply need a limited number of labels. Our team will work with you to determine the best options and provide a competitive quote based on your specific requirements.
The maximum order quantity on our storefront is 100,000 labels. If you need more than 100,000 labels, it is considered a custom run, and you will need to complete our custom quote form. We understand that some projects require larger quantities, and our custom quote process allows us to provide a tailored solution for these needs.
Custom runs are ideal for large-scale projects, bulk production, or when you need an extensive number of labels for a specific campaign or product launch. We offer three different options to help you design and customize your product labels, depending on your needs and preferences:
Custom Design: This option allows you to create your own design using our online design studio. Simply select a product from the left-hand panel and choose the "Custom Design" option to get started. Our design studio offers multiple tools, including text, shapes, colors, and image uploads, so you can bring your vision to life and create a unique label that perfectly matches your brand. It's an easy and intuitive way to customize your product labels exactly how you want them.
Upload Design: If you already have a completed design, you can use the "Upload Design" option to upload your artwork directly. We support various file formats, including JPG, JPEG, GIF, PNG, EPS, AI, PDF, and PSD. This option is perfect for those who have worked with graphic designers or created their label designs in other software. Simply upload your file, and our team will handle the rest to ensure your labels are printed with the highest quality.
Use Our Designers: For those who prefer a professional touch or don't have an appropriate computer file or finished design, we offer the option to work one-on-one with one of our internal expert designers. Our designers will work closely with you to understand your brand, vision, and requirements, and bring your ideas to life with a high-quality, custom label design. This option is ideal for those who want to ensure their labels are designed to the highest standards and align perfectly with their branding. Please note that an additional fee will apply for this service, and we’ll guide you through the process to ensure you get the results you’re looking for.
Whether you choose to design it yourself, upload a pre-made design, or work with our experts, we have a solution that fits your needs, helping you create labels that look great and make your products stand out.
FILES SUPPORTED (Mac and PC versions)
- Adobe Illustrator (preferred)
- SVG
- High resolution Adobe Photoshop (layered, not flattened). Please make sure 0.0625″ bleed is added to all sides of artwork
- PDF (vector)
- InDesign (NOT for labels that require WHITE layer like foil labels or clear labels)
- High Resolution JPEG, TIFF, or PNG
While we can usually work with native files in any of the formats above, our preferred formats are Adobe Illustrator format and SVG with all fonts converted to outlines and links embedded. Or you can send us the artwork package with all used fonts and links.
A full bleed is when the color or design extends all the way to the edge of the label, leaving no white border. This is known as the color “bleeding” off the label. If your label design or background color is intended to cover the entire surface of the label, we require an extra 1/16″ (0.0625″) bleed around each edge. For example, if you have a 2″ x 1″ label where the color bleeds off the edges, you should size your design to 2.125″ x 1.125″ to ensure the bleed is properly accounted for. This extra bleed area allows us to trim the labels without any risk of leaving white edges, ensuring a polished, professional look.
It’s also important to keep any significant design elements, such as text or logos, at least 1/16″ (0.0625″) inside the die-line. This clear space is called the "safe zone" and helps avoid accidental trimming of important elements due to slight shifts that can occur during the die-cutting process. By including both the bleed and the safe zone in your design, you can be confident that your labels will come out looking exactly as you intended, with a clean edge and no missing details.
We offer two methods for providing pre-press proofs, each serving a different purpose to ensure your labels meet your expectations:
PDF Proof (No Charge): The first method is a digital PDF proof, which is provided at no additional charge. This proof includes a sign-off sheet and is intended to be used for checking content position, text accuracy, spelling, and grammar. Please note that PDF proofs are not suitable for color confirmation, as colors can vary significantly between different video monitors. This method is ideal for ensuring that all elements of your design are in the correct position and that there are no errors in the text.
Press Proof (Physical Proof): The second method is a "press proof," which is a physical sample of your artwork printed on our equipment and using the material you selected. A press proof is essential if we are printing a label that may have been previously produced by another company on different printing systems. This method allows you to see exactly how your labels will look in terms of color, material, and quality.
No two presses, even if they are manufactured by the same company, will print colors exactly the same. Factors such as humidity, temperature, and the specific material used can all impact the final printed colors. Because of the setup involved, press proofs typically come with a cost, as the printing press must be fully set up to produce just a few feet of material. The process of setting up a file for printing requires both time and resources, but it provides the most accurate representation of your final product and ensures you are satisfied with the results before full production begins.
Products
We can print on a wide range of materials to meet your specific needs, including:
- Foils: Perfect for adding a metallic finish that makes your labels stand out.
- Papers: Versatile and cost-effective, great for a variety of product labels.
- Clear Films: Ideal for creating a "no-label" look, which gives your product a sleek, modern appearance.
- Vinyl: Durable and resistant to water and weather, making it perfect for outdoor use or products that need a longer-lasting label.
- Wine Stocks: Special textured papers that give your labels an elegant and classic feel, perfect for wine bottles or other premium products.
We offer a variety of finishes to give your labels the perfect look and feel:
- Matte: Provides a non-reflective, smooth finish that gives your labels an understated, elegant appearance.
- Gloss: A shiny, reflective finish that enhances colors and makes your labels pop, perfect for eye-catching designs.
- Hi-Gloss: An even shinier finish than gloss, giving your labels a very vibrant and polished look, ideal for products that need to stand out on the shelf.
- Laminate: A protective coating that adds durability to your labels, making them resistant to moisture, scratches, and fading. It can be applied in both matte and gloss options, depending on your preference.
Coated papers are available in two finishes – glossy (shiny and smooth) and matt (flat and lusterless).
- Coated glossy papers reflect the light evenly so they are suitable for almost all types of printing jobs.
- Glossy papers have a good ink holdout, which is important for creating sharp, bright images.
Printing
At our company, we use two advanced printing technologies to create high-quality custom labels for you: Inkjet Printing and Liquid Electrophotography (LEP). Let me break it down in a simple way:
1. Inkjet Printing
- How It Works: Imagine a printer that sprays ink directly onto the label material in tiny droplets. That's how inkjet works—it doesn’t need printing plates, which makes it very flexible and great for smaller jobs or when every label needs to be a bit different.
- Advantages: Inkjet printing is fast, flexible, and gives you beautiful, bright colors with lots of detail. It’s perfect for short to medium-sized print jobs and can handle many different types of label materials.
- Limitations: While inkjet is awesome for smaller batches, it's not quite as fast or cost-effective as other methods, like traditional offset printing, for really big print jobs.
2. LEP Technology
- How It Works: LEP uses a more advanced process involving a special drum and liquid ink to transfer images onto the label material. This method allows us to control the ink super precisely, giving the labels a professional, high-resolution look—often as good as traditional printing.
- Advantages: The quality of LEP printing is amazing—it’s super sharp and has deep, rich colors. It works on a wide variety of materials and is great for high-end labels or when you need personalized designs.
- Limitations: LEP can be more expensive for shorter print runs, but it becomes more economical as your print quantities increase.
With both of these printers, we can create custom labels quickly and exactly the way you need them—whether it’s a small batch with personalized designs or a larger run with stunning detail.
Our system supports RGB (red, green, blue) for producing digital prints. We have accurately mapped color pallet to match RGB to CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, key) to ensure proper 4-color printing.
300 dpi (dots per inch) is the resolution of the output PDF file.
Rewind direction refers to the way the printed labels are oriented on the roll, including the direction that the graphics face and how the labels are wound. This is important because different labeling equipment requires specific orientations for optimal application. There are 8 standard rewind positions, and selecting the correct one ensures that the labels can be applied efficiently without reorientation.
The appropriate rewind direction depends on the type of labeling machine being used, whether it is an automatic label applicator, a hand-held device, or another type of equipment. For example, some machines require the labels to come off the roll from the top, while others may need them to come off from the bottom or side. Choosing the correct rewind direction helps avoid delays during application and ensures a smooth labeling process.
To determine which rewind direction is right for your labels, we recommend consulting with your contract labeling company or the manufacturer of your labeling equipment. They will provide specific requirements based on the equipment's configuration, ensuring your labels are positioned correctly for seamless application.
